When you have anemia your blood cannot carry enough oxygen around your body, and you may experience constant, extreme fatigue – often severe enough to interfere with your daily activities. In addition, you may feel short of breath, weak and dizzy.
In some people, anemia can also result in disturbed sleep patterns, changes in mood and difficulty thinking clearly.2,6 Anemia can increase your risk of heart problems.7 It can reduce a man's ability to get an erection and change the timing or flow of a woman's menstrual cycle.8

If you have reduced kidney function your healthcare team will be doing blood tests to look for anemia. If a diagnosis of anemia is confirmed, treatments are available to correct it and manage its symptoms.
